Happy Birthday Alma!

Today would have been my Gramma's birthday.

I really wish she could have met my angel baby.
But, then maybe she did.

Gramma gave me ringlets.

I love you Gramma!

Hello Tiny Giraffe. Pictures Galore!!

Today's milestone:

Cassie held onto and played with her first toy!!

The tiny giraffe made by Grandma :) She shook it all around, held it up to her face, managed to get it into her mouth (which led the the funniest "this tastes awful" face) and then just held it to her. It was clenched in her tiny fist for at least 20 minutes before she let go.

This one is MY favorite <3

It is so fun watching her figure things out!

Day 4

Just a quick update:

So the other night produced a one gallon Ziploc bag full of Sweet Apple Pumpkin baby food cubes and  one tiny snack sized bag of Apple Raspberry cubes. Tonight so far we have one full tray of Cinnamon Sweet Potato Banana. The blender needs to cool off for a while now and baby had a super dirty diaper to take care of so we are letting Tiny eat and relaxing with some How I Met Your Mother.

Next up blending the rest of the straight up sweet potatoes.

Sorry sweetie. The other banana is all mine! :)

Day 3 of Adventures in Homemade Baby Food

There are two batches of Sweet Pumpkin Apple made and freezing in ice cube trays. Plus a tiny batch of Apple Raspberry, using some of the freeze-dried raspberries I have pureed into apple sauce. I need more apple sauce and more veggies before I can make anymore. I'm thinking of doing my own recipe and adding banana to the next batch of pumpkin apple. It sounds good to me and it'll be one more variety for her to try.

To expand: Today is Day 3 and you are probably (or maybe not) wondering what happened to Day 2? It didn't disappear. I wore myself out to much to make a post yesterday.

Even though the recipe called for a Pie Pumpkin, I decided to give it a go with the one I hadn't gotten around to carving. It was still good so I didn't see why not! I cut it in half; scooped out the seeds and slimy entrails; placed it cut side down on a cookie sheet and baked it. It took somewhere between 40 minutes and an hour at  400 degrees.

When it was cool enough to work with I started chopping it up bit by bit, removing the skin. Most of it was placed into a large Rubbermaid container to work with as I could.

Adventures of Making Homemade Baby Food

I have just began my first steps into the:

"Adventures of Making Homemade Baby Food."

Why waste the pumpkin that never got carved when I can make puree out of it and make some baby food without preservatives and other crap! I know it's 'not as sweet' as pie pumpkins but I think I found a recipe that makes up for it.

We actually did some "Black Friday" shopping. (Don't hate me.) We waited until almost noon to go out. I have a hard time passing up killer deals but nothing and I do mean nothing is worth fighting other people; standing in line hours and freezing my ass for! I did manage to wrangle myself a fire pit for 22 bucks! YES! My back yard is gonna fall into place next year!! Bricked off patio with a picnic table and grill, a fire pit and my garden area!

Hopefully we can rebuild the retaining wall and put in the other steps by the garage like I want too. Then all we need is a Koi pond! Which conveniently enough my brother-in-law can help with!

I can't wait until SPRING!

Custom Charts, I need ideas

I need to come up with a super cute growth chart for Tiny Viking! We can mark down the measurements we already know and label :

18 inches at birth
21.5 inches at two months

I'm not sure if I want to keep following the jungle/forest animal theme, because a tree would be easy, or if I want to make something Viking themed. Since the nickname stuck!

Also on a side note for Tiny Viking. I think there needs to be some Adventures with Trinny and Tiny comics. I'll have to keep thinking on it. It has been way way too long since I drew a comic.

Oh! I bought more tulle and fabric yesterday to make her some outfits! She will hopefully be our little Christmas faerie!!

Update on my Tiny Warrior Woman

We've had some success!!

Posted this on Facebook a few minutes ago:

Update on my tiny warrior woman. Miss Cassie has gained!!! She went from 6 lb 1.8 oz at last weeks visit to 7 lb 0.5 oz! Her height and weight are back in the same percentile (5th for those curious) so she is still tiny but we're headed in the right direction!! Thank you for all the prayers, we've still got some catching up to do but the Dr is no longer worried! I am one incredibly relieved Momma!

-------------

I have decided that if I am going to continue to stay home that we are going to try cloth diapers. There are some that I have seen at Babies R' Us that consist of a cover and either cloth or disposable inserts. I might go that route. It would be more expensive at first but if we stuck to the cloth inserts or other cloth diapers at home and used the cover and disposable inserts while we were out we would save a ton on trash, and who cares having one more load of laundry. Tim seems to think it isn't a bad idea and says that diaper services here are really cheap, so there is that too.

Also, if I continue staying home after the first of the year I plan to look for a dog. Hopefully we'll find a young one at the shelter.

EDIT: The diapers I mentioned from Babies R' Us are the gDiapers. I REALLY want to try them.

The Ginger Oh! Snap!

Can we say OOPS?!

A certain little lady had her first inadvertent taste of food last night.

She was in her rocker completely asleep and content, just long enough for me to stick a ginger snap cookie in my mouth. She started crying, I swear before she was even fully awake and in the seconds it took me to reach for her she had almost hit melt down level. I held her up so that she stood on my lap and I looked up at the TV for just a moment, the cookie still hanging half out of my mouth.

I felt her lean forward and didn't really think anything of it until I looked back to see her happily gumming away at the other side of my cookie. Her eyebrows were raised and eyes were wide open. She looked very satisfied with what she had found. She barely had it in her mouth but when I moved her back away from it, she had cookie mush and drool all over her face.

It was so cute and funny I almost choked laughing so hard.

I knew it was about time for her daddy to be on his lunch break at work so I sent him a text message asking for him to call me when he had a moment. I just had to tell him about our little cookie thief!

I really wish I had thought to get a picture or that I could have gotten video of the incident. Re-telling it to someone just doesn't do justice for how funny the scene is as it replays in my own head.

Added Note:

Her rocker that I refer to is a Fisher-Price My Little Lamb Rock 'n Play Sleeper.

Ours doesn't have the vibration. It is SUPER cute and very useful! It folds up and is light weight for easy moving, we have taken it with us to my in-laws and used it over at their house before. Tiny Viking seems to LOVE it! We give it 4 thumbs up!

No weight gain = stressed out momma

She slept with me in the bed and not in the bassinet last night, but we had our first sleep through the night! I count that as a victory! Two short bouts of wakefulness to eat and then back to sleep. Over eight hours worth!! She also slept a couple hours in the afternoon on my chest while we did a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives marathon.

Yes. Sometimes I co-sleep. Don't judge me.

We had our week follow up and she didn't gain any weight.

UGH.

So we're going to up the supplementing and I'll keep trying to get my milk production to increase. This means I may have to either postpone going back to work a couple more weeks or just make up my mind to stay home with her and find other ways to help with the income. I did manage to mail off checks to get rid of two bills from the pile and one more gets paid tomorrow. So I feel accomplished there.

Still need to get stuff together for her two month pictures before we reach 3 months!!

Tiny Bubbly Baby Laughs!!

SO EXCITING!!

We have heard our first tiny baby laugh.

It was AWESOME

Also, Ms Tiny is getting quite drooly the last two days, waiting to see if it is because she is becoming more adept had getting fingers in her mouth and keeping them there or if it means the first tooth is on it's way. It would be really early for a tooth but not unheard of. I am hoping, of course, it's the first option.

The hair on the top of her head is starting to come in more now that we seem to have gotten rid of almost all the cradle cap.

She will soon have more hair than her daddy! *GRIN*

I love you Pandora

We have made some progress today! Even if it doesn't seem like much to everyone else.

Baby girl and I can now consistently nap for 3 hours or just a touch over that together. Swaddled with some lullabies playing, thanks to Pandora and my Android phone, she is currently on her second solo sleep in the bassinet. The first being this morning. I put her down after nursing her, while swaddled until she fell sleep, at around 7:20 AM and she stayed asleep until around 9! She's been down for about 20 minutes so far so there is hope!

I absolutely love to cuddle her to sleep but I need to know she'll be okay on her own the two nights a week with grandpa. I'd rather have her asleep the majority of the time there than being stressed out. After consistency is gained on the solo sleeping we shall work on setting a little more solid sleep routine.

(UPDATE: 5:58 PM she slept 40+ minutes)
She woke up long enough to dirty a diaper, eat a few minutes and is now attempting to fight falling back asleep.  Three solo naps total the longest lasted over 2 1/2 hours!

Proud momma!

You're kidding right?!

Holy crap!

A new milestone just occurred not 5 minutes ago!

Miss Cassandra had fallen asleep in my lap like usual and I tried to lay her down in her bassinet. She immediately woke up but didn't start crying right away this time so I stepped back to watch her from what I thought would be a safe distance. She rolled from her back, first to her side which she has done before, and then to my amazement she didn't stop there! She deftly rolled over to her belly! She has never done this before so I had to stifle a little cheer as I didn't want to startle her. Her legs are extremely strong and as I watch she got her knees up under herself and she scooted herself almost to the other end (we are using the bassinet insert in her pack n' play, so there is some distance she can move!). She got a little more frustrated at that point and in one move flipped all the way to her back from her front. She scared herself a little and broke into tears, poor girl.

I rescued her of course.

Love this girl!
